I have known Judy since my university days. She is Korean by nationality, Malaysian at heart and a true global citizen. She fits perfectly among her Malaysian peers, embraces the local culture and she can even communicate in Bahasa Malaysia. Sometimes I feel that we, as Malaysians, tend to take our local cultural practices for granted (blame globalization and cable TV!) but Judy will try her best to learn about the local culture, people, places and food.

I remember she invited us back in 2006 to her place and she cooked us some delicious Korean food and the first thing she told me, “Syaf, don’t worry, everything is Halal!” It touched my heart for her to make the extra effort to make sure the food is Halal and for her to be actually aware of what’s Halal and what’s not. I’ve also been told that she can cook Nasi Lemak and her sambal is the bomb but too bad I never had the opportunity to taste her Nasi Lemak.

Today, she is leaving Malaysia for good. She has other dreams to pursue and goals to fulfill elsewhere. After choosing Malaysia as her base for a couple of years, she has decided to move to Australia and I am sure she will fit perfectly fine at the land down under! Perhaps next time she can serve us steaks, Aussie style?

Selamat jalan, Judy!
