BLACKBERRY CURVE 8250 VS. NOKIA E72
I was supposed to review the Blackberry Curve 8250 a while back, but as one thing led to another, I had forgotten and of course, I lost the Blackberry at KLCC the same day I made a comback on Twitter after a one-week hiatus. Here are some highlights based on my experience using the Blackberry Curve 8250.

- For an entry-level Blackberry, it is definitely great for students and young executives, who might eventually want to upgrade to the Storm or Bold series. It is very affordable. I bought mine at RM 1,200 without any packages as I am already a Maxis postpaid customer so all I had to do was upgrade my account with the Blackberry Internet Service.
- I love the BB Messenger as I can message friends for free, including those based in USA and elsewhere.
- Facebook and Twitter applications can be used at the touch of a button with ‘live’ updates.
- The annoying thing is that the BB will notify me of every single new emails that I get, especially during days when I do not even want to read my emails.
- It’s a 2G phone, not 3G!
- There is no front camera, so no video calls (if you want to make video calls!)
- It does not support Qik (www.qik.com).
- You can use Gtalk but make sure you sign-out from it if you are using web-based Gtalk at the same time, otherwise you will be receiving the same messages twice.
- The keypad is ideal for those with small fingers.
- I LOVE the voice command feature!
A week after losing the phone, I initially wanted to get another Blackberry but was told that I had to wait for a month. With that in mind, I bought Nokia E72.

- After using it for more than a week, I realize that Nokia E72 is suitable for those in their late 20s or 30s.
- Why? Because it has a very business-like feel. It’s a very “serious” phone compare to Blackberry Curve 8250. The BB is more fun and playful.
- I can still chat on Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger and Gtalk thanks to Ovi Plus
- Just like the BB, I can read my emails anytime. It will notify me of unread emails.
- It has a built-in 5.0 mpixel camera with flash, capturing good quality images.
- On the other hand, as expected, pictures from the front camera is not that good.
- Even though I use many of the applications, the battery remains strong. With a BB, by the time you use Facebook and Twitter for a long time, you will see the battery meter dropping.
- Sleek design.
- It can read your SMS for you so you can listen to your new SMSes while driving!
- The speed dial for the Nokia E72 is digit-based whereas for the BB, it is letter-based, which is more convenient.
The BB curve 8250 or Nokia E72? I love both in different ways. I love the Blackberry for it’s BB Messenger, Facebook and Twitter applications. I love the Nokia E72 because it is a very “professional” phone. At the end of the day, as long as I can check my emails and Facebook when I am bored waiting for a friend in a shopping mall, I’m fine. As long as I can cam-whore, I’m happy too.
Both phones are like your laptop on-the-go.

Good review. I am thinking of getting a new phone but I cannot see a better phone than my Omnia.

8Hi there, i am not a tech savvy. I couldnt really differentiate between 2g and 3g so much. i have just bought my 8250(without making any review survey) yesterday. And i was tricked by the seller on the 3g part. so if it is 2g what is the drawback?mind to explain?thank you
9@Dianben: Thanks for visiting my blog! I am not a tech-savvy person as well.
In terms of 2G vs 3G, this link might help you know the difference: http://www.ehow.com/about_5365446_vs-network.html
Generally, I am using a 3G BlackBerry now, and I find the transfer rates much faster compared to when I was using Blackberry Curve. Especially true when I am trying to send emails.
Anyways, enjoy your BlackBerry!
10Hey syaf! i just got a blackberry too..hehehe…so this means we can message for free now right?
